By christinewatson / / This is a really, really great idea. In order to get people to realize there’s more to life than a sale, outdoor outfitter REI is closing all 143 stores on Black Friday and paying its employees to go enjoy the outdoors. Venables Bell and Partners created the campaign, of which REI CEO Jerry Stritzke said, “Black Friday is the perfect time to remind ourselves of the essential truth that life is richer, more connected and complete when you choose to spend it outside.” We’re guessing REI won’t suffer a bit from this 1-day closure and the amount of goodwill and press they’re getting from this may even encourage more people to shop there this holiday season.
