Brands and Agencies Drop Beats on Turntable.fm

Turntable.fm enchanted us with its release earlier this summer. In connection with Facebook, the music site allows users to spin their own selections of tunes, taking turns playing mixes for their friends. Along with free music-streaming service, Spotify, there's been a good deal of buzz surrounding its launch.

Now, Turntable.fm is getting some fresh and quite important attention from brands and agencies that are willing to take a spin on the site.

Users can now join rooms started by Pepsi, Pepsi Max, Groupon customer support, NYT Digital, Gizmodo, and Gawker. Most of these rooms appear to be placeholders with no DJs or attendees just yet, but it shows an important interest from brands who are keen to stake out their territory on Turntable. Last week, cable network, Bravo, spun Bell Biv Devoe's "Poison" for a small room of listeners.

Ad agencies are hosting their own rooms as well. With a quick search you can find BBH, Attik, Deep Focus, DraftFCB, Arnold, and Rosetta. CP+B Miami's room is still hopping with 4 DJs as I type.

So far the brands are setting up for free and Turntable hasn't announced any plans for bringing in revenue. Considering Turntable is still a baby and still in beta, it's unlikely that they'll be looking to release a business model in the near future.

With big name brands and agencies expressing interest in the site, it might be time to set up rooms and charge for entry, possibly targeting special events or guest DJs. Many music lovers and partygoers are willing to pay a price for access to exclusive clubs, so why not harness this consumer interest with brands on a virtual platform?
