Work Submission: The Fashionable Mom Show

The unattainable, deliciously champagne-filled world of fashion is about to get handed a juice box and a lesson in accessibility. The Moms are in town. On Thursday, February 16, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center will feature Strut: The Fashionable Mom Show. Big Fuel’s online mom community, MOM-entum, is partnering with blog powerhouse THE MOMS to show fashionistas everywhere that style doesn’t fade after a woman gives birth.

Strut will feature affordable, accessible clothing modeled by real moms (though some are bound to be demi-goddesses nonetheless. This is New York Fashion Week, after all.) According to Women’s Wear Daily, highlighted brands will include Shoshanna, Pea in the Pod, and Ramy Brook.

In addition to live-streaming from the Lincoln Center, Strut will host a series of Twitter parties, the first of which is today. At 9 PM EST, “Strut Moms” will launch the fete with prizes awarded every 10 minutes. It’s unclear what else will transpire, but you can simply tweet #StrutMoms to join the fun.

According to Mom-entum, moms control 50 percent of the wealth in the US and make 80 percent of all discretionary purchases. This show is a solid investment. Marketing via online mom communities will spread the word faster than the latest case of kid sniffles, and mom-friendly brands will finally get a moment of glory. If all goes well, perhaps wholesome (never frumpy) mom style will become a fashion week staple.
