Wrath of Cannes: The "Other" Awards Show

Bitter about the glitz, glam, and inaccessibility of Cannes? There's an app for that! Well, actually, there's not. But there is another awards show.

Wrath of Cannes: "Those who can, go to Cannes. Those who can't go to Coney."

Created by NY-based agency Woods Witt Dealy & Sons, the Wrath of Cannes will launch its fifth annual show this summer, giving young advertising enthusiasts the opportunity to submit their brilliant creations. This year, Tony Hawk crowdsourced the assignment for his Birdhouse brand of skateboards and is challenging entrants to broaden the awareness and appeal of the Birdhouse brand without selling out and costing it millions of dollars.

Co-founder and creative director, Harry Woods says that Wrath is "a bitter response to the self-congratulating, gladhandling, marblebag-wearing, Dom-swilling, bronzer-slathering soirees that fester up on the beach in Cannes."

And just in case you didn't get the message, The Grand Coney Statue is a man with his head up his ass. Who wouldn't want to display that gem for family and friends on a finely dusted mantle?

Wrath is taking on greater meaning than ever before. Any student or junior freelancer (two years or less paid experience) can enter. Among other prizes, the grand prize winner of Wrath will receive $1,500 cash; his/her named etched into the base of The Grand Coney; and if Hawk approves the winning idea – an internship at WWD&S and a chance to produce the actual campaign.

Work must be submitted by June 17 to official Wrath of Cannes website. The awards show takes place on June 23 at Cha Cha's on Coney Island.

Egotists, live up to your name and showcase that talent proudly.
